Gina Gascoigne is lighting designer with over 30 years of experience. She spent
many years touring in Europe as a lighting designer and operator, working with contemporary dance groups (including four years with the catalan group Mal Pelo) as well as physical theatre companies.
On returning to Australia she spent eight years working for Circus Oz. Since running away from the circus she has worked with numerous companies and performers including Archie Roach, Susie Dee,Top Acts,Melbourne Festival, Adelaide Festival, La Fura dels Baus, Outer Urban Projects, NICA, Chamber Made Opera, Maude Davey, Lou Bennett, , Kate Hunter, Castlemaine Festival, Citizen Theatre, Union Theatre, Angus Cerini, Flying Fruit Fly Circus, Women’s Circus, Westside Circus, Snuff Puppets, Platform Youth Theatre.
As an artist Gina’s sculpture-based practice draws on her background in lighting and somatic education to investigate the metaphorical and psychological effect architecture and the built environment has on our everyday life. She employs everyday building materials to create work that develops a sense of narrative and landscape within the surfaces to examine notions of memory, time and place.
She is also a qualified Feldenkrais practitioner.
